Is security a top priority for you? You can enhance the security of your Rainbow account by enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA). To benefit from this additional security, you'll need to link your Rainbow account to an application installed on your cell phone. We recommend using Google Authenticator, Authy or Microsoft Authenticator.
Warning: Activating multi-factor authentication on your account requires that your Company administrator has previously authorized this login method. Learn more
Activate Rainbow multi-factor authentication
To activate multi-factor authentication (MFA), start by installing Google Authenticator, Authy or Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile. Once the application is available, you can start the configuration from your Rainbow settings.
- Open " Settings" by clicking on your avatar at the top of the sidebar.
- In the left-hand menu, select " Security" to display the "two-factor authentication" information. Click on "Configure" button to start then "Next" button.
- Open the pre-installed application on your mobile and scan the QR code. If the scan doesn't work or isn't available, you may have to enter the connection key manually. Click on the button to display the connection key. Full documentation for each application is available here: Microsoft Authenticator - Google Authenticator.
- Once your application has received the QR code or connection key, it will provide you with a 6-digit code that you'll need to enter into Rainbow. Once the code has been entered, click on the "Next" button to finalize the configuration.
- A recovery code is generated. This code must be saved and will enable you to log in again in the event of a problem with multi-factor authentication. Click on "Copy to clipboard" and save it to your computer before clicking on the "Next" button to complete the configuration.
Note: Once the connection has been established, your application / browser is registered and you won't need to use the multi-factor authentication for future connections. However, you may be asked to re-authenticate systematically or occasionally, depending on the settings made by your Company administrator. Learn more
Tips: Your recovery code can be retrieve later, in your security settings, or regenerated and sent by your Company administrator if necessary.
Manage Rainbow multi-factor authentication
Once the initial configuration is complete, you can manage certain parameters of your multi-factor authentication (MFA) or delete it. In this case, you'll automatically switch to a connection via Rainbow credentials, with no further security checks.
- Open your settings by clicking on your avatar at the top of the main menu, then on the " Settings" icon in the drop-down menu.
- In the left-hand menu, select " Security" to display the "two-factor authentication" information. Click on "Change settings" button to manage your authentication.
- Enter your Rainbow password to access your security settings then clik on "Continue" button.
- From here, you can deactivate your multi-factor authentication by clicking on the "Disable" button.
- You can also retrieve your recovery code or generate a new one by clicking on the "View code" button. This code must be saved and will enable you to log in again in the event of a problem with multi-factor authentication.
- You can also delete all currently saved applications / browsers and force a new multi-factor authentication connection on all your devices by clicking on "Remove all" button.
Connect to Rainbow using the multi-factor authentication
Once multi-factor authentication has been activated, an additional step requires you to enter a 6-digit code when logging in. Once connected, your applications / browser will be memorized and the frequency of the reinforced authentication will depend on the security settings of your Rainbow Company.
- When you log in to Rainbow, enter your e-mail address and password as usual, then click on the "Continue" button.
- A 6-digit code is requested to validate the connection. This code is auto-generated by the application you used when configuring multi-factor authentication. Full documentation for each application is available here: Microsoft Authenticator - Google Authenticator.
- Once the code has been inserted, you can choose to remember your device so that you don't systematically ask for multi-factor authentication by activating the " Remember this browser or application" option.
Tips: If you encounter issues generating the 6-digit code from your application, you can bypass the use of multi-factor authentication with your recovery code. Click on the "Use a recovery code" link and insert your pre-registered recovery code to access Rainbow. Note that your Company administrator can reset your settings and allow you to log in with your Rainbow credentials if you no longer have access to your recovery code.
